The Breakdown

Why efoiling

An electric foil trades wind and swell for a battery and a propeller, which means it works on days or bodies of water where a normal foil, sail, or wing won't. I can ride the Schuylkill River or glide across Bucks County's Peace Valley Lake.

The hobby drew me as I quickly assessed three levels of proficiency that required dedication to master, but provided fun throughout. Level 1 is riding on your stomach like a boogie board. It's super fun to rip around at 15-20 mph along coastline and bodies of water that swimming or boats cannot. Level 2 is getting your balance right and standing up. It's rewarding to learn trigger control and balance and control the board with your feet. Level 3 is elevating and maintaining balance up on the mast. It's wild to have your vantage point 9 feet above the water and thrilling to accelerate or take turns with no friction. It feels like flying! Each level has captured me and continued to provide enjoyment and satisfaction.

If you are enticed by the efoil, I encourage you to reach out or sign up for a lesson. It's an amazing one time experience or hobby to keep improving!
